Ann Saintsbury has been with NFSB for the last twenty three years and she is your child's Special Ed. Technician for this school year. Ann comes with years of experience working with students and their special educational needs. We are so happy to have her in our class!
My name is Ms. Valerie Rachubinski. I am your child's teacher for this year. I have been a Learning Centre teacher for the last seven years, this year being my eighth. Previous to this, I taught Visual Arts here at CVR for three years. I enjoy gardening, reading, and cats. I'm here to work in partnership with you to see that your child is successful.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Curriculum Night will not be held this school year. Here is a breakdown of the curriculum your child will be working on this school year:
Language Arts -Paragraph Writing: a weekly, four day writing program which teaches your child how to properly put together a paragraph based on the topic of the week. -Grammar: daily learning of the basic rules of language. -Reading: weekly reading comprehension on interesting topics. -Vocabulary: words are explored through various activities on a daily basis. Math -Today's Number: daily math to help strengthen basic skills. -Multiplication: weekly work on basic multiplication starting with the 2 times tables and working up. -Topics covered over the year: Telling Time, Place Value, Graphing, Perimeter and Area, Word Problem Solving. Novel Study -Harry Potter Series: the goal is to read the first four books of the Harry Potter series. Vocabulary, imagery, scenery, and characters are studied. Students are read to on a daily basis and follow-up questions are answered to demonstrate understanding of the text. Science: -We will be working on the animals featured throughout the Harry Potter series. Animals which will be studies include owls, spiders, snakes, cats, horses. Life Skills: -Learning through situations and issues they can relate to. |
